This is my A2 Media Studies blog which will act as a portfolio for all my coursework. Here I will present theory and practical work as well as all the research, planning and evaluation that went into creating our Romance/Drama/Film Noir teaser trailer and its promotional package - a poster and a front page magazine cover.

Questionnaire Results
From this questionnaire, we got results that would show us what and who would be our target audience for RENDEZVOUS.
Synopsis
Synopsis of other Noir Films:
DETOUR (1945)

A New York piano player hitches a ride to LA to see his girl. He gets a ride from a man who mysteriously dies. A femme fatale threatens to turn him in for the supposed murder unless he assumes the identity of the dead man to collect an inheritance. Black & White.
I like how they establish this film and the characters- as the Detective in Film Noirs are always known to be involved around women- and clearly from this synopsishe is already in a 'relationship' but then a femme fatale gets involved. In Film Noir there is always crime and murder and this is already mentioned in the synopsis so the target audience who watch these films for the action and drama will be enticed.
IMPACT (1949)
A two timing wife and her lover conspire to kill her husband. Plans go awry and the lover gets killed and the husband leaves town. Black & White.
I think that this synopsis is too short, also it gives the whole plot away without giving any mystery to what happens in the end. It is also simple, from this it does not sound interesting at all- it just explains how a murder fails and the woman is blamed.
'Rendezvous' Synopsis:
Bridgette and Raymond have everything they could possibly want, except for an unhappy marriage. Bridgette then seeks out for a love affair with a deceiving detective, who also is seeing a young femme fatale, this is all gets found out but who will end up hurt the most?

Filming Industry
All well known films will most likely be under the six large media conglomerates. These large Hollywood studios dominate the film industry in the cinemas with mass audiences watching their films.
Hollywood studios have either created or bought their own independent brands, which are run seperately from the studio and most likely 'non mainstream' films. For example, 'MIRAMAX' (owned by Disney) and USA Films (owned by Universal). In the real world we would like a film to be involved within the independent companies that are owned by the large conglomerate studios, mostly because the funding and distribution would be larger-scale.
PROS-
. Non-mainstream films may recieve more attention from 'serious', 'high art critics'
. Some stars may work in the non-mainstream film because of the high art status
. Our film may be seen in independent film magazines and festivals
We are in the midst of making our promotional package for our film "Rendezvous". In reality we would like to require the help from an independent company such as Working Title Productions to produce, exhibit and distribute our film. As we would be able to show our Noir film in independent art houses and cinemas.
The funding would come from BFI, National Lottery - there will also be funding from the conglomerates- as Working Title Productions is owned by Universal who will fund our film.

Target Audience
From our genre and the time it is set in, also from our questionnaire results we have found that couples who are quirky and love things vintage would love this genre of film.
Also, females who are quirky and love vintage styles would love this film due to the love but also the drama that runs throughout the film.
Representation- what is it?
CONSTRUCTING REPRESENTATIONS:
We all do it!
- Before taking the photograph
. SELECT whats in the image
. Made decisions about what to OMIT
. CONSTRUCT representative by making decisions about use of CODES like camera angle, lighting and mise en scene
This is how audiences will read your representation
Also, the mediators such as directors, producers and editors interpret the world for audiences. Their interpretation is varied on their own experience and backgrounds- class, race, gender and age.The audiences then interpret this representation and analyse it into their backgrounds and beliefs.
